01Who we are and what this policy covers

InsuranceBorder.com (the "Site") is operated by Insurance Border Agency Inc. ("we", "us", or "InsuranceBorder"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the Site, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.

It applies to consumers who read our content or request a quote, to insurance professionals who appear in our directory or use the Agent Partner Portal, and to anyone else who visits the Site. It does not apply to the practices of the independent agents and carriers we connect you with; each of them is responsible for its own privacy notices once your information reaches them.

We are not an insurance carrier. Where an agent or carrier collects information from you directly to quote or issue a policy, that collection is governed by their notices, including any notice required under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

02Information we collect

We collect information you give us, information generated when you use the Site, and a limited amount of information from third parties. We try to ask only for what the next step needs.

  • Quote requests: your name, email, phone number, ZIP code and state, the line of coverage you are interested in, and the answers you give to the questions for that line, such as household size, vehicle details, property details, or business type.
  • Consent records: the version of each disclosure you accepted, the time you accepted it, and whether you opted in to text messages.
  • Portal accounts: name, business email, time zone, password (stored only as a salted hash), notification preferences, license numbers and expiration dates, service areas, lines written, and lead appetite.
  • Directory profiles: the professional information an agent asks us to publish, including agency name, license status, service areas, and a short bio.
  • Usage and device data: pages viewed, referring URL, approximate location derived from IP address, browser and device type, and the identifiers of any session cookies we set.
  • Communications: messages you send us through the Site, by email, or by text, including replies such as STOP.
  • From third parties: state license verification results and, for agents, information from the agency that invited them to the portal.

03How we use information

We use personal information to operate the Site and to deliver the service you asked for: connecting you with a licensed insurance professional.

  • Route your quote request to a single licensed agent who has told us they write that line in your state, and re-route it if that agent does not accept it within one business day.
  • Show you, before anything is shared, who may contact you, how, and what they will receive, and keep a record of the consent you gave.
  • Send transactional messages about your request, such as confirmation that it was received and which agent accepted it.
  • Verify agent licenses against public state records and flag licenses approaching expiration.
  • Operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Site, including detecting fraud, abuse, and repeated failed sign-in attempts.
  • Measure which content and coverage guides are useful so we can improve them.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

04How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share quote requests with lead brokers or aggregators. Your request goes to one licensed agent at a time.

  • Licensed agents: when you submit a quote request, we share the information in it with the agent it is routed to so they can contact you. If the request is re-routed, the first agent loses access and the next agent receives it.
  • Service providers: hosting, email and text delivery, analytics, and error monitoring vendors that process information on our behalf under contracts that limit their use of it.
  • Agencies: if an agent belongs to an agency on the portal, agency administrators can see that agent’s licensing status and lead activity.
  • Legal and safety: regulators, law enforcement, or others when required by law, to protect our rights, or to prevent harm.
  • Business transfers: a successor in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

05Text messages

We send text messages only if you opted in on the quote request form. Message frequency depends on your request. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving texts from us, or HELP for help. Opting out of texts does not affect your quote request; the assigned agent can still reach you by the other methods you consented to.

Consent to receive texts is not a condition of purchasing any product or service.

06Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies. A session cookie keeps you signed in to the Partner Portal and expires after 14 days of inactivity. Preference cookies remember choices such as the section you last viewed. Analytics cookies help us understand how the Site is used in aggregate.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking the session cookie will prevent you from staying signed in to the portal. We do not respond to browser Do Not Track signals because there is no common standard for them, but we honor the opt-out choices described below.

07How long we keep information

We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal and record-keeping obligations. Consent records tied to a quote request are kept for as long as that request could be relevant to a compliance inquiry. Portal account information is kept while the account is active and for a reasonable period afterward. Usage data is aggregated or deleted on a rolling basis.

When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it so it can no longer be linked to you.

08How we protect information

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, rate-limited sign-in, and sessions that can be reviewed and revoked from your account settings. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If you believe your portal account has been compromised, change your password from Account settings, which signs out every other device, and contact us at ops@insuranceborder.com.

09Your choices and rights

You can access and update the information in your portal account at any time from Account settings. Consumers can ask us to correct or delete the information in a quote request, subject to our obligation to keep consent records.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws, including the right to know what personal information we have collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information or of targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of on that basis, but you may still submit a request and we will confirm.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@insuranceborder.com. We will verify your identity before acting on a request, usually by confirming control of the email address or phone number on file. You may authorize an agent to submit a request on your behalf. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

10Notices for specific states

Insurance is regulated state by state, and some states require specific privacy disclosures. Where we are required to provide a state-specific notice, it is delivered on the relevant form or by the licensed agent who quotes you. This section will be updated as those requirements change.

California residents: we collect the categories of personal information described above, for the purposes described above. We have not sold or shared personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising in the preceding 12 months. You may make requests using the contact information below.

11Children

The Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

12Information about insurance professionals

For agents and agencies, we process the professional information needed to verify licenses, publish directory profiles, and operate the Partner Portal. License numbers and status are checked against public state records. Directory profiles are public by design; you control the bio, service areas, and lead appetite shown, and you can ask us to remove your listing.

Consumer information you receive through the portal is provided for the purpose of quoting the coverage requested. Your use of it is governed by the Terms of Use and by applicable insurance and privacy law.

13Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date and version above. If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will notify you by email or with a prominent notice on the Site before it takes effect.

14How to contact us

Questions about this policy or requests about your information can be sent to privacy@insuranceborder.com. For portal account issues, contact ops@insuranceborder.com. You can also write to Insurance Border Agency Inc., Attn: Privacy, at the mailing address listed on our Contact page.
